Methodology & Scope

1. Scope and Purpose

The Situation Room is an authored decision rehearsal designed for business leaders, legal teams, and professionals. It is an educational tool that explores the potential consequences of decisions made during a crisis: specifically, a fictional dawn raid in England and Wales.

This Crisis Simulation does not constitute legal advice. It does not certify an organisation as "crisis ready" or guarantee any particular outcome in a real investigation. The choices and their consequences are authored based on professional experience, but every real investigation involves unique facts, different investigators, and distinct corporate contexts.

2. Authorship and Review

The scenarios, semantic option mappings, consequences, and debrief modules are authored by Craig MacKenzie. They draw upon experience representing clients in complex criminal and regulatory investigations.

The simulation deliberately avoids gamification, random outcomes, or generative AI in its evaluation. Every consequence and debrief finding is deterministically linked to a specific semantic decision or combination of decisions made during the exercise. It maps meaning, not simply arbitrary "A/B/C/D" options.

3. Assessment Approach

The debrief is generated from predetermined modules. It assesses bounded competencies such as functional coverage, conflict management, and priority escalation. It does not measure absolute legal correctness, as multiple valid approaches may exist depending on unstated organisational facts.

A high-risk finding in the simulation reflects a vulnerability in the fictional scenario based on the provided choices. It is not an assertion that the participant's actual organisation is currently operating unlawfully or inadequately.

4. Deterministic Method and Limitations

The simulation uses a strict branching and causal event model. If a participant selects an option, a corresponding event occurs. The system does not "learn" or alter its logic using artificial intelligence. The assessment model is provisional and has not undergone independent calibration or psychometric validation.

• Fictional constraints: The options provided are intentionally constrained. In reality, a leader might have a wider range of nuanced choices.
• Time compression: The incident clock represents fictional time. Real incidents evolve unpredictably and often more slowly or rapidly than simulated.
• Investigator behaviour: The simulated investigators respond according to the script. Real officers possess independent discretion and may respond differently to cooperation or resistance.

5. Privacy and Security

This simulation requires no registration. Anonymous sessions use browser-bound identifiers, and access expires seven days after a run starts. A daily job targets deletion of the run and its child records within 24 hours after expiry under normal operation. Clear run deletes active database records immediately. Failed jobs are logged and recorded, then retried manually. Restore points or backups may retain prior copies under the provider's applicable retention arrangements, so there is no guarantee of immediate or absolute physical erasure. The system does not ask for, nor should participants provide, real allegations, live legal advice, employee details, or actual corporate documents.
